Sarah Palin Reads Honcho? And Llama Life II?

October 1st, 2008

Katie Couric, who’s proven to be a little rascal of an interviewer lately, recently asked Governor Palin which magazines and newspapers she reads in order to stay informed. Palin’s response:

Palin: I’ve read most of them, again with a great appreciation for the press, for the media.

Couric: What, specifically?

Palin: Um, all of them…

You read every single periodical? Even Honcho, Governor? And Llama Life II?

I guess politicians are too worried about alienating illiterate voters to mention any publications by name.

So, Governor, since you read Relix, it seems fair to ask what you thought of their Conor Oberst cover story? Too weepy? Not enough jammin’? I agree. Call me old fashioned, but what ever happened to jam band magazines that exclusively cover jam bands? One day you’re chilaxing with a Relix, getting balls deep in a fluffy but insightful feature on moe.’s amphibious recording studio, and then—whaaa?—you turn to a page with favorable reviews of the new TV on the Radio and Girl Talk albums? Horseshit. How do you feel about Relix‘s broadened scope, Sarah? And how does it relate to The Long Tail? Is there money to made in appealing to niche interests? Furthermore, is editor-in-chief Josh Baron too beholden to the middling tastes of the masses, or has he stuck to his flower-clogged guns?

Gotcha.

Also, there’s this:

Llama Life II Mission Statement

  • To underscore that llamas and alpacas are a permanent and productive part of our society – admired, valued and cherished by thousands of owners and producers; and that our lives are forevermore interwoven with theirs.
  • To promote, enhance and protect the welfare of all lamas [sic(!)] with information regarding their care, and addressing issues that affect their well-being.
  • To cover a sufficient number of events to give owners – both professionals and fanciers – an honest sense of what is happening in the areas of health, marketing, competition, promotion and politics.
  • To provide an open forum for civil discourse.
  • One Response to “Sarah Palin Reads Honcho? And Llama Life II?”

    1. Josh Baron Says:

Ah, the balancing act. You win some readers, you lose some readers, you hopefully keep the majority. Good to know folks like you out there… truly. Relix will be heading back to jamtastic territory for much of ’09 (and, should I do my job as it should be dun, without the fluff). Thanks for the feedback.
